Some questions to Silvano Mancini, a former partisan

In April, the month symbol of liberation, it is right and proper to remember the experiences of the period of the Resistance who has experienced first hand. The decision of the Minister of Education of the darkened memory of those years teaching history in schools is having a bit 'on the sly, but it is one of the most serious acts towards those who are committed to our liberation.
To make our contribution to the memory of that time we put a few questions to Silvano Mancini, a former partisan of Empoli.

You were one of the partisans who volunteers to help out from Empoli Liberation. What led you to become one?

I came from a family of deep anti-fascist ideals, I was taken by the Germans in 1943 to work at Empoli. The situation was tragic, we did not eat and slept on the mattresses. I and others decided to escape and from there became a "wanted" and was forced to hide in the woods. I fought in Friuli division that has contributed to Liberation Bologna. I want to emphasize that I did not feel and I do not feel like a hero, let's say that I was forced by events to be partisan, but then there was born my passion for politics that I never left. I've always been quite reluctant to ceremonies and medals, were the circumstances to make me a partisan. Certainly, however, the education I received valuable advice and my father were essential to the choice you made then.
What you had aspirations for the future of the country in your division?

We realized that we were doing something important for the country. I have to say that when we went to Rome to reform the army and found the remains of the various divisions, especially the Friuli had fought in Sardinia, the former soldiers were wary of us, almost all were linked to the House of Savoy and early dialogue It was not easy. We of course Empoli were other ideas, we wanted democracy and peace, without the king. At the end of the war of ideas many remained monarchical, but not all. We young people had the certainty that the future would have been better, but because we came from decades of dictatorship and everything seemed better. What is certain is that our ideas were confused and did not know what would happen. At Empoli, for example, was to rebuild everything.
What do you think, as a partisan of the Italian situation? And the center-left?

I am very pessimistic about the current situation. In the postwar years, but also for many years with the PCI we could transmit our ideals, the ideals of the constitution. But today everything has changed and the doctrine that broadcasts do not exist anymore. It 's sad that only the League now able to talk to people, is taking a road that was and should still be on the left. The left is too divided today, but it is not the fault of any particular party but the big picture.
What is your opinion about the PD, do you think you were able to maintain, even though times have changed, some kind of link with the old PCI?

I think he wanted to be moderate to force the Democratic Party has lost sight of many things and this may be the reason why many parties are left out. I think there is an overall reading of society and are convinced that this will form an alliance with the center has lost sight of the electorate to the left. I think if there is a general overview and a recognizable identity is useless to seek alliances weary, because people not perceive your own project.
do not know if you ever feel the transmission of the Raiperunanotte Santoro interview with the director Monicelli in which he speaks of the need for a revolution in Italy. Do you agree with this expression, though not in a literal sense?

We agree. There are many critics, especially the elderly to the Italian situation. In particular, it is frustrating for me to see how Berlusconi has plagued the electorate that was really the left. On the other hand, if the PCI was able to get 35% there was a reason. Today, the historical situation is certainly changed but not the Italians vote right now because they are all gentlemen, but rather because the left is no longer able to make a clear plan of his vision of the future.
